Dr. Jack is the narrator in the recent one and one-half hour independent film titled "Morality - A Historical Perspective" written by Robert DePaolo (Concord, NH) and filmed and edited by Douglas Jay of Nashua, NH (Guarino Productions). In the fall of 2005, nearly 1000 hours of work went into the making of this film. It has been airing on local cable access TV in Manchester, Laconia, and Concord, NH and will be submitted to major festivals such as Sundance later in the year.
The film asks some important questions: why are human beings moral? Why are they sometimes immoral? Why do they even care about morality, if other creatures are content simply living their lives by a survival mandate?
The contributions of gods, ideas, and human brain development toward moral thought are considered in light of those questions in this 90 minute film that weighs “goodness” against the balance of human nature. It focuses on the history of morality as seen from religious viewpoints (Egyptian, Catholic, Buddhist, Christian, Muslim) and from philosophers like Plato, Aristotle, John Locke, Descartes, and the Thomas Jeffersons of the world.
